How to help others in need.
How do I approach and speak to a person I am worried about? How can I be sure that my worries are legitimate and justified? What should I say, what should't I say? What resources or professional health care services can I recommend? Should I trust my gut feeling?
Our Mental Health Allyship Program will give you answers to these and many more questions!
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF OUR COURSE?
In this course, you will learn to recognise signs of mental distress and illness in others and yourself, to alleviate them and, as appropriate, prevent them.
With our course we hope to reduce your worries or inhibitions in interacting with persons experiencing mental distress and illness. Forthermore, you will strengthen your know-how so that you can provide adequate first aid and facilitate help-seeking from professional support services.

WHEN AND WHERE DOES THE COURSE TAKE PLACE?
We offer the course on a monthly basis (usually Saturdays) and employ common online conference tools such as Zoom and BigBlueButton. The course lasts approximately 4,5 hours including breaks. As a participant you need a device with a functioning microphone and camera and should be willing to interact. Passive auditing is neither encouraged nor possible.

Please note: For the summer, the entire course is split into two consecutive days (Wednesday and Thursday evenings). Sign up only if you can attend both days. The offered coureses will be in German, courses in English are available upon request.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Social support is an important factor for managing stress and recovering from mental illness. The course is targeted at all individuals who are motivated to lean how to help others in need. It is especially suited if you have ever been unsure how to behave when you suspected someone was struggling mentally. This can involve individuals you know well as well as relative strangers. No prior knowledge is necessary!
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE COURSE?
Everyone. Individuals who find the time and choose to take part in our course learn to more react more competently to people experiencing mental health problems in their environment. At the same time, individuals currently struggling with mental health issues may benefit by living in a more alert community willing to offer assistance and refer them to professional health care services. Our experience shows that both individuals with prior experience as es well as laypersons enjoy and benefit from the course.
WHAT MAKES OUR COURSE UNIQUE?
Complete: We convey relevant knowledge in an understandable and interactive manner. Additionally, we have developed a catchy 5-step formula to guide conversations and aiding in difficult situations. All our content is created in a hands-on fashion and you get the chance to put knowledge directly into practice, for instance via role playing.
Compact: All of this is covered in less that five hours including breaks - a manageable format which can be squeezed even into a busy schedule.
